This weekend one of the most anticipated rematches in years is coming to select Spearmint Rhino locations. Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (38-0-1) and Canelo Alvarez (49-1-2) will take the ring in Las Vegas for the WBA (Super), WBC and IBO middleweight titles. With odds similar to the first fight back in September or 2017, which ended in a draw, oddsmakers have maintained that Golovkin is the favorite. In an interview with International Business Times in the summer of 2017, Alverez brushes off odds & favorites:
“I really don’t think about that. I don’t worry about that,” Alvarez said. “I’ve probably been the favorite in most of my fights, but I really don’t pay any mind to that. What I worry about is being in shape, being trained at 100 percent and being ready for the fight.”
Last year the fighters did what was expected of them for 12 rounds, Golovkin applying nonstop pressure to the challenger to his middleweight championship, Alvarez slipping and countering with vicious power shots of his own. Giving the fans a heck of a good fight, the only letdown was after the reading of the judges’ scores, declaring the fight a draw.
